a. Christy Cassarly, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She received her PhD in Biostatistics from MUSC (2017). As a faculty member in the Data Coordination Unit (DCU), Dr. Cassarly is involved in the design, coordination, and analysis of Phase II and III multicenter clinical trials in neurological disorders and emergency medicine. With emphasis in stroke rehab/recovery and prevention, she serves or has served as the PI of the data coordinating center and statistician for several NIH-sponsored clinical trials including: Cilostazol for Prevention of Recurrent Stroke (Clarity), Telerehabilitation In The Home After Stroke (TR-2), Chronic Subdural Hematoma Treatment with Embolization Versus Surgery Study (CHESS), Telerehabilitation for Aphasia (TERRA), Escitalopram & Language Intervention for Subacute Aphasia (ELISA) Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation for Post-Stroke Motor Recovery- A Phase II Study (TRANSPORT2), ARCADIA Cognition and Silent Infarcts (ARCADIA-CSI), Speech Entrainment for Aphasia Recovery (SpARc), Predicting Outcomes of Language Rehabilitation in Chronic Aphasia (POLAR), and Stimulating Language in Subacute Stroke (SLISSE). Dr. Cassarly also serves on the StrokeNet Prevention Working Group, as the statistician of NINDS-appointed Data and Safety Monitoring Boards and has served on numerous NIH Grant Review Panels. On the academic level, Dr. Cassarly collaborates to publish on methodological issues in clinical trials, such as randomization and study design.
